The Bay of Samana makes up the southern edge of the Samana peninsula. It’s known to have one of the top Humpback whale sanctuaries in the world, where thousands of the marine mammals migrate each winter for the warmer waters of the bay.
A visit during the mating and calving season, mid-January to the end of March is a unique opportunity to enjoy this sanctuary by boat and see these magnificent creatures up close, some as much as 20 meters long. The whales may also be seen along the coastal road on the way out to Las Galeras at the end of the peninsula.

Limited at 40 miles in length and on average just 10 miles wide the Samana peninsula has an abundance of outdoor activities for the active traveler. These activities for all ages are not limited to just hiking, horseback riding, sailing, and kite surfing, there is also deep-sea fishing, mountain biking, zip lines, fresh rivers and waterfalls. Additionally, the famous “blue flag” Playa Rincon and the UNESCO world heritage site, Los Haitises National Park are easily accessible and popular day trips from the hotel.
Horseback riding or hiking to El Limon waterfall is a favorite excursion through the dense canopy of foliage that lead to the 40 meter high cascade and the verdant ecosystems of the area.
Los Haitises National Park is one of the Dominican Republic’s foremost national parks with amazing flora and fauna, subtropical forest, mangroves, caves rich in pictographs left by pre-Columbian inhabitants, and towering islets found along a 208 square kilometer protected area.
